PortCare Delivery Van

Portcare is a local Charity directly assisting needy individuals and families, within the Greater Fremantle/Cockburn area.

Every day, they distribute up to 50 boxes of essential food items, ranging from Fruit & Veg, Bread and cans or packets of food.  A great deal of these food items are donated by Supermarkets within the area (ie: Coles "Second Bite" program) and are collected daily by a team of Portcare Volunteer drivers & helpers. Fortunately these donated items of food have increased , (unfortunately so has the need!) leading to the current small ute being unsuitable for the task of collecting.

Charlie, the CEO of Portcare has sourced a suitable replacement refrigerated truck, which they are currently renting from Budget. The truck is nearing the end of its fleet life and Budget are willing to sell it to Portcare for $20,000.

Imagine the difference we could make. Uniting WA highlighted the critical need for dental care among the homeless. Many struggle with severe dental issues, impacting their self-esteem and hindering their ability to secure employment. A simple set of dentures, combined with counselling and support, can be the turning point in their journey out of homelessness.

This isn't just about fixing teeth; it's about restoring dignity and hope.

Here's why this project is a compelling proposition for our Rotary Community Group:
  • Direct Impact: We'll be directly improving the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness, providing them with essential care and a pathway to self-sufficiency.
  • Visible Rotary Project: This initiative will be clearly identified as a Rotary project, showcasing our dedication to service and attracting public support.
  • Sustainable Impact: We can create a sustainable model by engaging the community for ongoing support and funding.
  • Developing Future Leaders: This project offers invaluable experience for young dentists and provides opportunities for established dentists to give back and mentor.
  • A Real Solution: This project addresses a real need that is not being adequately met by current services.
